Announcements

  • August 15th - CFF Open House
  • The OPEN HOUSE ICE CREAM SOCIAL and CLASSROOM-STOCKING DAY is scheduled for Sunday, August 15th , from 9:30 to 10:45am. It's not just for C.F.F. families. Everyone is invited to have ice cream for breakfast and check out the classrooms, new and old. Each classroom has a name and a theme and you will probably learn something when you enter the door. Explore and Enjoy! If you are able to bring some supplies, there will be a "Giving Tree" in the narthex next week with names of items needed on the tags.
  • Classes for three years old through 12th Grade will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 beginning August 22nd.
  • The Fifth and Sixth Grades Class is going to have a Fall Festival in October. One of the attractions will be a "Coat and Jacket Booth" where you will be able to purchase a "gently-used" jacket or coat for a small donation. If you are cleaning out your closets to make room for new school clothes and come across a jacket or two that won't fit this winter, would you donate it to the "Coat and Jacket Booth" ? Bring them to church and put them in the bin in the narthex. Thank you. For information call Alice Marshburn 706-253- 1607.

CATHOLIC FAITH FORMATION

PRAYER TO OUR LADY, ASSUMED INTO HEAVEN

Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, we believe in your triumphant assumption into Heaven where the angels and saints acclaim you as Queen. We join them in praising you and bless the Lord who raised you above all creatures. With them we offer you our devotion and love. We are confident that you watch over our daily efforts and needs, and we take comfort from our faith in the coming resurrection. We look to you, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. After this earthly life, show us Jesus, the blest fruit of your womb, O kind, O loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.

How blessed we are to have Mary as our Mother and our Queen. She watches over every detail of our life carefully guiding us, if we let her, and doing even more than a mother. She watches over us with the power of a Queen. Because Mary was obedient to God in everything and was preserved from even Original Sin she was spared death as we know it and was taken to Heaven without having to suffer the punishment for sin. She now reigns beside her Son.

OPEN HOUSE this Sunday. Come have ice cream for breakfast, visit with the Catechists, and check out the classrooms. We're ready to spread the Good News.

A Registration Form should be filled out for each family enrolled in our Program as well as an up-to-date Medical Release form. A copy of every child's Baptismal certificate is required to be kept on file.

The Registration fee is $25.00 per child through 8th grade; $35.00 per child for Grades 9 through 12 with a maximum of $105.00 per family. Checks should be made out to: O.L.M. C.F.F. Program. No family should fail to enroll their child because of the expense. If the fee is a problem speak with Linda Hermann.

Parents who prefer to Home School their children are asked to register them if they wish reception of the Sacraments to be recorded in our Parish Registry. The Sacramental Guidelines for the Archdiocese must still be followed. (See the Handbook) Families may use the Ignatius Series that we use or another series approved for use in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

"Education in the Faith by parents should begin in the child's earliest years…Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the Faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocations as Children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of parents and children." (Catechism of the Catholic Church # 2226)

How blessed we are to be in a community that cares about and supports our Catholic Faith Formation Program. Before we begin another school year we'd like to share a few things from last school year.

  • The past year brought growth and changes to what was, not too long ago, a little program of about 40 children. (Just 12 children 15 years ago)
  • We finished this past school year with 141 children in our classrooms and another 20 registered as Homeschooled. We were blessed with 13 Catechists and several brave parents who shared their Catholic Faith with the children in PreSchool through Eighth Grade.
  • 17 children made their First Communion.
  •   Another tremendous blessing was the Living In The Light Program for High School students designed by Father Byrd and carried out under the direction of our Youth Minister, Pam Gardner, and Deacon Lloyd Sutter with the help of 7 Catechists. 17 teens received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • We spent a little over $12,000.00 to educate and provide an atmosphere of inspiration with a little fun here and there. (That is in addition to purchasing the new classrooms.)
  • And, following in the footsteps of those who traveled the road before us, we consumed an uncountable number of donuts.

It was a very good year.

Thank you so much to all who helped us with donations of all kinds and for supporting whatever it was we were doing. But especially thank you for the example you give to our children through faithfully living our Catholic Faith everyday. "Book-learning" is only that until it is put into practice. You show the children how…

God bless,
Linda Hermann

Today's Mass Readings

This Is Our Faith…

Apostolic Tradition is the transmission of the message of Jesus Christ, brought about from the very beginnings of Christianity by means of preaching, bearing witness, institutions, worship, and inspired writings. The apostles transmitted all they received from Christ and learned from the Holy Spirit to their successors, the bishops, and through them to all generations until the end of the world.
